Senator Bong Go declared adopted son of Capiz, gets nod from local leaders in visit during Capiztahan Festival

“Si Senator (Christopher) Bong Go ay isang taong may isang salita. Kaya sa kapangyarihan ng mga mamamayan ng Capiz, buong puso ko siyang ipino-proklama bilang adopted son ng aming lalawigan,” declared Governor Fredenil Castro during the Capiztahan Festival on Sunday, April 6.

The proclamation came as Senator Go joined a festive motorcade through Roxas City. This was a symbolic gesture of gratitude for his consistent presence and unwavering service to the people of Capiz.

During the motorcade, Senator Go was accompanied by fellow senatorial aspirant Phillip Salvador, also known as “Mr. IPEktibo,” reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development.

His visit coincided with the Capiztahan Festival, a vibrant celebration showcasing the rich culture, history, and seafood delights of Capiz—the Seafood Capital of the Philippines.

Locals gathered along the motorcade path, many offering local delicacies to the senator, who obliged with cheerful pauses to sample his favorites—including balut and halo-halo, which he bought directly from street vendors. He also encouraged Filipinos to support small enterprises to boost local economy.

As Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, he reiterated his commitment to help improve access to medical services, especially for Filipinos in underserved and far-flung communities. He stressed the importance of enhancing localized health infrastructure and social support mechanisms to ease the burden for the poor.

“Gusto ko pong mas mailapit pa ang mga serbisyong medikal sa tao—hindi po dapat kailanganin pang bumiyahe ng malayo o mangutang para magpagamot,” emphasized Senator Go.

He spotlighted the continued operations of Malasakit Centers, one-stop shops for medical assistance to indigent patients, which he principally authored and sponsored under Republic Act No. 11463. As of now, 167 centers are operational nationwide.

In Capiz, a Malasakit Center is located at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in the city. The Department of Health (DOH) reports that the Malasakit Center program has already provided aid to more than 17 million Filipinos.

Senator Go also mentioned the parallel efforts to establish more Super Health Centers nationwide through his collaboration with fellow lawmakers, the DOH under Secretary Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa, and local government units (LGUs). In Capiz alone, 12 Super Health Centers are underway as part of the 700 funded so far nationwide.

He also supported the funding of a new five-storey building for the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Barangay Lanot, Roxas City, as Vice Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance.

Senator Go emphasized the importance of strengthening health infrastructure, especially in the provinces, to ensure that Filipinos—particularly the poor and those in remote areas—have access to quality medical services.

“Isa po sa mga pangunahing adbokasiya ko ay ang pagtutok sa kalusugan ng bawat Pilipino. Bilang inyong senador, sisiguraduhin kong may sapat na pasilidad, kagamitan, at serbisyong medikal para sa mga nangangailangan,” said Senator Go.

He also supported numerous development initiatives across the province.

In Roxas City, Senator Go’s support has made possible the construction of key public infrastructure, including a new multi-purpose building serving as the city’s legislative center and a major flood mitigation structure in Barangay Punta Cogon. He also helped facilitate the completion a multi-purpose evacuation and convention center in Barangay Lauan and a new government center in Pueblo de Panay.

Across the rest of Capiz, Senator Go’s support is felt in various infrastructure projects aimed at improving mobility and agricultural productivity. In the towns of Panit-an, Pilar, Panay, Cuartero, Ma-ayon, Mambusao, Jamindan, Pontevedra, Dumarao, Dao, and President Roxas, multiple provincial and farm-to-market roads were either concreted or rehabilitated—paving the way for easier transport of goods and more connected rural communities. Notable among these are the rehabilitation of the Panit-an–Tinigban Provincial Road, the Astorga–Lawaan–Bungsuan Road in Dumarao, and the Cabugao–Calapawan route in Panay. Equipment for disaster response and road maintenance, such as motor graders and hydraulic excavators in Sigma, was likewise realized through Senator Go’s support.

Senator Go’s advocacy for resilient and accessible public facilities is equally visible. In Pontevedra and Sigma, he supported the construction of new multi-purpose buildings designed to serve diverse needs—from administrative use to emergency coordination. The municipality of Tapaz, for its part, saw the rehabilitation of its drainage system and a multi-purpose building repurposed as a quarantine facility.

On the healthcare front, Senator Go has consistently prioritized projects that enhance public health infrastructure and access to services. Ambulances and medical equipment were procured for several towns, including Pilar, Mambusao, Panit-an, and Dumarao. In Tapaz, a new Rural Health Unit was allocated funding through his efforts.

Senator Go also acknowledged Capiz Governor Fredinel Castro, Vice Governor Jaime Magbanua, First District Representative Emmanuel Billones, and Second District Representative Jane Castro, for their service to their constituents.

His legislative agenda remains grounded in healthcare accessibility, disaster resilience, youth and sports development, and institutional reforms aimed at poverty alleviation—principles shaped by his years of service alongside former president Rodrigo Duterte.

“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” underscored Senator Go, who is widely known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate public service.

On the same day, Senator Go also joined the inauguration of Super Health Centers in President Roxas and in Pilar, Capiz.
